Italian Marriage Certificate Full Copy ( Copia Atto di Matrimonio): what it is, what it is used for, and how to request it

Italian Marriage Certificate Full Copy ( Copia Atto di Matrimonio) or The Full Copy of the Marriage Record is an official document issued by the Municipality that certifies the marriage between two individuals. It is the literal copy of the entry recorded in the municipal register and includes the essential details of the act, the spouses’ personal information, and any annotations present in the civil status registers.

Validity and requirements for the request

The document has a legal validity of 6 months.

To submit the request, the following are required:

  • first and last name of the spouses
  • date and place of birth of the spouses
  • date and place of the celebration (the Municipality where the marriage physically took place)
  • Municipality of transcription (usually the Municipality of residence at the time of the wedding, where the act was recorded for registry purposes)

Information contained in the certificate

  • First and last name of the spouses
  • Date of birth of the spouses
  • Municipality of birth of the spouses
  • Date and place of the marriage
  • Any annotations

P.S. The marital property regime of “community of property” is not indicated in the marriage extract. The annotation appears only if the spouses opted for the “separation of property” regime.

Attention to dates not present in the archives

It may happen that the information about the individuals is not available in the Civil Status archives, for example if one of the spouses was born more than 100 years ago or if the marriage took place abroad and has not yet been registered in Italy. In this case, the certificate cannot be issued.

Who can request the certificates?

Certificates can be requested by anyone with a legitimate interest.
Some Civil Status Offices may require a proxy accompanied by a copy of the ID of the person concerned.

Transparency and Refunds

Our priority is your satisfaction. If the document cannot be located in the municipal archives:

  • We retain only the fixed search costs (approximately € 39.00 plus any amounts paid to the municipality).
  • We fully refund unused costs (courier shipping, additional services, or apostille).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Who can request it? Anyone who needs an updated document for personal or administrative use, or an authorized representative.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How long will it take to receive my certificate?

Most digital certificates are sent by email within a few days after we receive the completed delegation form together with the identity document. For documents that require the delivery of the original paper copy, the timing depends on the shipping service selected.

How will I receive the requested document?
You will receive the certificate in PDF format directly at the email address provided in the order form. If you requested the original paper copy, it will be delivered by courier to the specified shipping address.
What are Apostille and Legalization, and when are they required?

The Apostille and Legalization are international certifications that validate the signature of a public official on a document, making it legally valid abroad (in countries that are part of the Hague Convention). If you need to submit an Italian certificate in another country, you will likely require this official stamp, which we obtain on your behalf from the Prefecture.

Difference between Apostille and Legalization

The Apostille certifies the authenticity of the signature, stamp, and official capacity for countries that are part of the Hague Convention. Legalization is a consular verification required by non‑member States and confirms the validity of the document for use abroad.

What happens if the information provided is incorrect

Our team reviews all the information you provide. If any missing or inconsistent data emerges that could prevent the document from being issued, our customer service will contact you promptly to correct the information together and complete the procedure without delays.

If the request is submitted correctly but the competent authority rejects it, we will retain only a portion of the amount paid to cover the costs already incurred.

Disclaimer: Ufficiocertificati.com does not issue certificates; the document is issued by the Municipality. We manage the entire process on your behalf.
The document is issued exclusively by the competent Municipality and can be requested directly by the interested party there or through the ANPR, where available.
We offer an intermediary service, taking care of the request and collection on behalf of the client through a formal proxy.
